Review: Amazon Fire HD 8 (2016) You get what you pay for

After my Nexus 7 had died, I started searching for a new tablet and was having problems finding anything at a good price in the size I wanted. Finally, Amazon announced the Fire HD 8 update and given the price I decided to order one, but this tablet has taught me that you do get what you pay for.

This is a decent tablet for the price, but it has some serious drawbacks. The app store that comes with the device is very limited and is missing many apps you would expect to find, for example there really isn't a decent email app in the Amazon app store. You can sideload apps but this is a small security risk, and your results will vary depending on the app. The screen is my biggest issue with the device as it is a much lower resolution screen than other tablets I am used to. Battery life has been decent but not as good as I was expecting. The feel of the device in the hand is very plastic; you know that you are holding an inexpensive tablet.

Overall if you need a cheap tablet, this is a decent choice, but I would recommend saving up for something that has a better screen.

Adventures with OmniFocus and GTD: Part 0

I have dabbled with the GTD methodology for years now, and although I think it is a great productivity system, I just couldn't ever get it set up to where it didn't feel like more work than it was worth. I have also played with OmniFocus for years but never committed to it, mostly due to not having an iPhone or a Mac at work.

Well, I finally picked up an iPhone, and I finally am busy enough at work that I needed to improve my productivity, so I have dived into the wonderful world of GTD and OmniFocus.

For the next few weeks, I plan to blog semi-regularly about my experiences and thoughts. Hope you join me for the ride
